Debrief Class Campaign-Yellow v. Purple

Purple won the election 57-40. Less than 100 people voted in the election. Consider what influenced you to vote. What do you think influenced participants to vote one way or another? (some were involved in the assignment and some were not) Using your Core 100, and your guided notes, discuss the campaign using concepts in context. Describe about all elements of political parties, campaigns, and voting in your response. **Remember to respond in a short answer format giving specific examples from in class discussions and reading.

  1. What influenced me to vote during the Yellow vs. Purple campaign was that my group and I worked really hard to have a successful election, and being that the effort was there and all the hard work I voted for Purple because we did a good job. What influenced others during this campaign would be the way you ran your campaign. What tricks you used like Bandwagon or Testimonial. If you have a lot of friends that were on Purple or Yellow you would go with the one with the better platform or the better looking posters. The purples propaganda was very creative and took a lot of effort to get them to look that good. When it comes to the votes 57-40 I think there should have been more people to vote. Then again in elections you have to look at the apathy effect. Are people really not that interested in what goes on in a campaign? Even though less than a hundred people voted it was still a good outcome and a good learning experience.

  2. I didn’t vote because I wasn’t on campus when voting took place. I think people voted depending on how the information was presented to them. Some parties used posters, videos, person to person campaigning. The polling place for this election was sixth period. We didn’t have a primary election because there were only two parties running. Less than 100 people voted in our mock election. This mirrors presidential elections because many people also don’t come out to vote in presidential election due to apathy. For our elections voters didn’t register, but I guess you could think of being registered as being a member of WECHS.

  3. I am somewhat surprised that the purple team won because I thought the yellow team had a better campaign by baking cookies and having the little eggs with candy. But I am glad my team won overall. I did not vote personally because I just don’t like to vote. However, others may have voted because of the different campaigning skills and different types of campaigning that went on. My team specifically used a modern rap to gain the students attention. Many children now a-days listen to rap and so this connected with them on the same level. We also used a lot of information on the yellow team and why you shouldn’t vote for them. We based a lot of our information on the meanings of the colors and why purple was better and why yellow was bad. We used flyers and colored them purple and had sayings on them to get the viewer to think about it and what our campaign stood for. We used empty phrases like “imagine a world covered in purple”. There is really no point to that but it sounds good and makes the view think bout the purple team.

  4. Purple won the election 57 to 40. I voted for purple because i was a active member in the campaign and i beleived that the Purple party was a better fit for office. The 40 people who voted for yellow might have been influenced by there flashy campaign techniques or were involed in the Yellow party campaign. The campaign assignment meets goal 4 the objectives for the core 100. Not only did the assignment give me a hands on experience into the world of capaigns but also held electrons to see which campaign ran better. There were two political partys The Purple Party and The Yellow Party. Students were split up ad assignment to each party and given a certain roll inwhich they were to contribute to the campaign. After the campaign was run an electron was held to tell the students which party held a better campaign.

  5. I think there were many factors that contributed to the victory of purple in this election. I think many voted for purple because they just like the color. Even though yellow actually took a stand on issues and purple did not the people still voted for purple. Purple used the bandwagon approach basically saying that “purple is cooler than yellow.” Yellow had a full platform the supported causes within the school like fund raising and organization which was like the plain folk campaigning. In the end purple some how won even with their negative campaigning. This goes to show that people most of the time will vote for their favorite based on unreasonable concepts such as their favorite color rather than valid stands on issues.

  6. What influenced me to vote was the yellow campaign. I liked a lot of the views and I thought there campaigning was better. Purple had a lot of fancy posters with good slogans but they didn’t really tell what they were all about. Purple also used negative campaigning. That could have changed a few people’s opinions. I am surprised that purple won. I didn’t like that they used negative campaigning and I wasn’t to sure what they stood for.

  7. In the Purple vs. Yellow Campaign, voters were probably most influenced by their friends. What would have influenced me to vote would have been my group color. I would have voted for myself even if the campaign wasn’t strong. Voter may have also voted for one group because of that particular group’s planks. In our class our planks were a more organized school, clubs, fresh school lunch, field trips, and a nice prom. People who voted for the purple team might not have had the same interests as the yellow team did. The winning team might have also just supported their planks better than the losing team.

  8. The purple won the election by seventeen votes. In my opinion it didn’t really matter who won the election because I did not vote myself. During the project I did put effort into the yellow to win. As a group we came up with a video and a commercial on PowerPoint. I think most participated in voting just for the fun of it. People probably based their votes on what their friends were voting on. Most of the time my team was doing their work. After we were finished with our products we did go see what the other team was doing and came up with the video idea.

  9. What influenced me to vote was not just because I was in the purple party but because of the way the purple party took charge. The purple party showed all concepts from the guide. Those concepts included bandwagon testimonial empty phrases and plain folks. These were all concepts that I think had to be included to get votes and when the election.

  10. I wanted to vote for Yellow but I wasn’t on campus when the voting took place. That was the team that I was assigned and (also my favorite color) I believed that we should have won the election due to all of the campaigning we did. We did not win, however, and that was probably due to the overwhelming amount of voters that did not know why they were voting for Purple or Yellow other than one the color they liked more. We were not as good as the Purple Party at getting other people to understand why Yellow was better for whatever reasons we chose to give. But we were better at making the different flyers or posters in order to draw people in as well as those great cookies!

  11. Many students voted purple because the campaigning my group created was really good. Campaigning could be advertising through posters, flyers, commercials, and talking to the public. Purple did all the types of campaigning, which led to this party wining the election. It was good that mostly everyone voted because it gave them a chance to express what color the liked.

  12. Even though I was unable to vote I would have if I had had the chance. I feel that students decided to vote one way or another not because of the political platforms but because they were either a member of the political party or they had friends who were members of the party, also the posters on the walls had a lot to do with voting because if they saw a “cool” poster they would vote for that political party. The campaigns were effective in the way they used graphics and in the way they used bandwagon appeals to get the voters to vote for them. The actual campaigns were effective in their use of strategies to get the voters attention. The voting process involved students voting in their 6th period classes using Survey Monkey to cast their vote. Overall the campaigns were effective with how they created their visuals and came up with their strategies.

I believe that my party the purple party won the election because we campaigned more than the other teams. We gave out candy did many flyers and posters, and even had a raffle. The yellow team had an equal chance in winning as any of us did. The purple team took time in their work and spent money on prizes. I think that the thing that won over voters was the prizes, and the candy. The yellow team only put up flyers that talked about what they believed in and didn’t do much else besides the commercials. I feel like the more money was spending on “bribing” the voters the more they would be sure to vote purple. Our team even got some people to even go against their own team, and vote purple. And that’s how I think that my team the purple team won this campaign. It wasn’t because we talked about America or even mentioned anything about what we would do if we won; it was that we campaigned (flyers candy, prizes for the voters if they voted for us) better than the yellow party.

  14. I think what influenced people the most was whether or not they like yellow or purple better. If someone simply did not like the color yellow then they voted for purple, and vice versa. On one team they were doing a raffle to influence people to vote for their team, they basically bribed people. What influenced me to vote was that I wanted my team to win. All of the teams made posters and flyers to show what the teams stood for and why people should vote for them.

  15. I voted for purple even though I was on yellow because purple ran a good campaign. They ran a good campaign because they told people if they voted for purple they could have a chance on winning a basket with a bunch of goodies in it. They made the campaign effective because they would make a cool design for a poster to persuade the people to vote for that color. Also if their campaign stratiges were good then they had a better chance of winning the election. The people from each "party" could express their views and try to persuade people to vote for them through posters, flyers, commericials, etc. and most people voted for purple because they used all those methods. So overall the campaign waqs fun giving the students a hands on expirence on how to run a campaign.

  16. Well, I was influenced to vote for who I voted for because I thought the teams platform was very thought out and gave an effort towards good meaning. I think that this team had good campaigning skills, also they were extremely persuasive. I did not vote for the other team because I believed they did not have that great of a platform/planks. More people should have voted to show that they want to be active citizens. The turnout of the voting reflects presidential elections because many people do not vote in those either.

  17. I was not here for the actual campaign, for I was at a competition; however, I do know that there are many factors that affect people to vote for a specific party. One of the major factors is what those parties’ beliefs are. If a specific party has a platform that the person agrees with, then that will affect who the person votes for. The people most likely vote for the party that has similar beliefs to them. Also, it depends on how well each party backs up their information. In order to win, you have to have good reasons on why you think you should win. The more evidences you have supporting your party, the better chance you will have to convince people that you are the best. Another factor affecting voting is how well you advertize. The more you advertize the more attention you get brought towards your party. The more interesting and appealing your campaigning is the more people will vote for you.

  18. I was influenced to vote because I really wanted the Yellow team to win. I knew the majority of the voters wanted to vote for Purple, but I still wanted to vote for the Yellow team. But the Yellow team did good and received 40 votes. I think that everyone who voted voted to see which team would win. The people who didn’t vote probably didn’t vote because they were too lazy to vote or didn’t know about the election. This project covered the concepts of Elections, Political Parties, and Rights to Vote, People’s Beliefs, Watch Dogs, Public Opinion, Canvassing, Electorates, Apathy, Endorsement, and Polling Place. I will describe the non- common terms in this election. Watch Dog was present in this election because we kept in eye for want they advertise and tried keep up the pace with our advertisement. Also they did the same to us. The term Endorsement was used because our team uses Wiz Kahlifa as our famous person saying that he likes the color yellow. The term Canvassing because our political party went to everyone influencing them to vote for the Yellow Team.

  19. I believe what happen with when the voting took place is that some voted on bias means of their favored color and others just did not have a clue to whom which they should have voted for. The ones that did not have a clue were influenced through the campaigns that took place and through the campaigns the supporters of purple slander the goodness of the yellow and vice versa. Some people did not vote or could not vote due to time, location, or just did not count their vote. I personally did not vote for I was at FBLA and I did not have a clue that this voting had taken place back here at school. I would have preferred if there was a tie so that we would still have our two school colors. Somewhere down the line there will be someone who would want to change this; there will always be that one person who forms that one group who influences everyone to move towards change. The group does not create change it just guides others towards it. Change is natural, it is evident throughout history. But I stand by my vote that I would want to have the two colors not the one. I would also wish that slander in advertising was not so intertwine with today politics that have eased it way down to students. I am not blaming not one source but many. So what can influence the voters is simple; False advertising, favoritism, and empty promises. Set your group up while knocking another down; it is sad to say that this is happening as evident of my fellow classmate’s handy work that I have had the privilege of staring at for the past twenty or so minutes. All this reminds me of the top dogs, the big boys, The Republican and Democrats. They once were one just like all color are and yet they split to form the two main parties that are evolved in our government today and like colors that have many different shades and different people support the one they favor most while others cannot decide on what their favorite color is.

  20. What influenced me to vote is my group. I saw how hard we worked to put together a good campaign, yet we still lost. All of our group members participated in the campaign someway. There was an equal amount of work distributed towards everyone, so I think that that’s what influenced me to vote. I think that what influenced most people to vote for purple is there bandwagon. For example they didn’t really focus on their platform; they basically went around and told people how much better purple was than yellow. As for yellow I feel that they had a well structured platform, but these accusations are coming from what I saw within my class. In addition, I think that what might have influenced people to vote one way or another is both teams passed out candy and other foods which persuaded most people to vote for them. For example purple used a raffle basket to get people to vote for them, and yellow used candy filled eggs, and cookies to get people to vote for them. Another factor that influenced to vote for yellow or purple is that they chose whether or not which color is better. Both teams also used empty phrases in a way also because yellow kept saying that they provided opportunity, and purple used bandwagon when they kept saying that purple was royalty. By saying these phrases it doesn’t tell us anything about your team. Overall I think that the campaign went well; everyone worked together, and both teams put up a good fight. I learned that candidates go through a lot when it comes to getting someone to vote for you or your opponent.

  21. Although I was not here and could not have participated in the event, I would have voted for the party that represented me the most or the one that I agreed with the most. There are multiple factors that influence people to vote one way or another. Some people may have voted because their friends were in the political party or because someone else made them vote. There could be people that voted for one party because they were more informed of the party's platform through creative means of campaigning. Lastly, there is the group of people that did not vote. They can be victims of apathy, they might not have been able to attend the election or they might not have known of the election at all. Parties may have used negative campaigning to make the opponents' faults and shortcomings known to the Electorate. The parties could have used canvassing and went from class to class talking about their political party. The campaign and the election took place within two days. Since I was gone for both days, I was uninformed and could not have voted. However, in a true election, the campaigning would take place for a long period of time and Electorates can place an absentee ballot if they cannot attend the election.

  22. What influenced me to vote was what the parties offered. Some parties offered prizes some made me not want to vote for the other team using negative campaigning. What really made me choose was the way the parties represented themselves I voted for purple not only because I was on the party but because we had more posters and more things like flyers buttons etc. I think most people where influenced the same way to. Both team yellow and team purple used testimonials; although, I think yellow had more. I think the reason most people didn’t vote was apathy because they either just didn’t feel like voting or thought it was just stupid. I think the reason purple one is we had a way to persuade people to vote for purple we gave out candy, flyers and lots of posters some of the posters where negative campaigning, we even gave voters a chance to win a basket with goodies and that alone persuaded about 15 people and more alone this is why purple won.

  23. I voted for purple because I was an active member of the team and I thought we worked hard and did a good job creating a campaign. We used many different strategies, including bandwagon (stating that Purple was better and that Purple would make the world a better place), empty phrases (saying “Don’t be a party pooper, party with Purple” and other things that sounded good but had little meaning), and even some negative campaigning. For the most part, we stayed away from the negative because we thought it might make the election get a bit nasty and we didn’t want to cause trouble, but by saying Purple was way better than Yellow, we did get a little into the negative campaigning. One major influencing element for the voters was obviously the way each side campaigned, but not only did the type of posters and campaigns affect voters, so did the opinions of others. Of course, if this had been an election using actual planks and moral opinions, people would have been less influenced by their peers, but since we had to make up our stance, it was less serious.

  24. I was campaigning for the yellow side, so I voted for the yellow side to win. I had faith in the yellow side because we worked hard, but I kind of knew that people were going to pick purple because, in my opinion, it’s more of a familiar color and more people like purple. Just because purple was your favorite color doesn’t mean you have to pick it so I think people were being kind of bias. You have to base what you think about the situation on like the facts and what they bring to the table. I was influenced to vote because our team was great and we had good posters and strategies, which I thought would win people over. The purple team did a raffle, which was a very good technique because they allowed everyone to vote from either side in exchange for a vote for their side. Some people might not have wanted to vote because they felt like the purple and yellow campaigns weren’t really based on real-world issues or they just had no complete interest in voting at all, apathy. When we were campaigning we had to establish a type of party platform, which was basically what we believed and our goals. We also had to make little planks, for example the yellow team said that we were trying to stop people from littering on the beaches. That was like a little issue we dealt with. Good techniques that everyone kind of did was canvassing, going around person to person talking about what they want to do for the community and why they think their better. I guess the yellow team kind of did endorsements because we put famous people on our posters and tried to use them to bring in more people. For this project everyone did negative campaigning, just by saying why they thought one color was better than the other. I think we also used testimonial, kind of empty phrases, and plain folks as other strategies to.

  25. The election that took place was won by Purple with 57 to 40 of yellow. What had influenced me to vote was the type of team work the teams had and the advertisements they did. The purple team had a lot of things that caught peoples’ eye. With the efficiency of their commercials and ideas to coax voters to vote for them lead them to winning the election. Both purple and yellow candidates had used the door-to-door method of campaigning to spread the word. On one of the purple’s team poster, I saw that they were using negative advertising to point out the flaws in the yellow team. However, the yellow team had exquisite posters that caught the eye. Having 91 votes all together in the election, I think was due to people being non bias or not having any interest in neither one of the teams. I don’t think the voting was really accurate, but having more people involved into the campaigning would have been more official.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am so happy that purple team won!!!!!!!!! We put in a lot of hard work and I think it showed through everything we did. Something that purple team did was make a raffle to win a basket full of stuff. We were not bribing the voters we were just encouraging them to vote whether it was for yellow or purple. Also another reason for people voting is just because they liked that color or their friend was voting for that color. I think some people just didn’t really care either way so they didn’t vote. In my group and on our flyers we used a lot of the bandwagon technique which was basically saying that purple was the best. But also in my newsletter that I made I described purples background so that was kind of like plain folks. Also we did some testimonials with people saying how much they like purple and hated yellow. So we worked hard and tried to use all of these techniques. I think that this activity was a good way to show us how hard the candidates work to get people to vote for them.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was on the yellow side of the campaign, so of course, I voted for yellow. But that isn’t the only reason why. I voted for yellow because we showed evidence of what we stand for and what different things we promote. But even though I am on the yellow team, I possibly would have voted for purple if I was influenced by what they stand for and agreed with their statements. I think that the purple team did more bribing, and then actual justified campaigning. Because every time I looked around I saw the purple team giving out candy, or raffling off a prize, for whoever voted for them. I did not see anybody actually trying to get people to vote for them, based on what they stood for. So I went and asked a lot of the purple team member’s individually and as a group what different titles they stood for. Every time I asked someone, the answer was either purple rocks, it is the royal color, or either they said that they are the best. Yellow stands for a better future, and making a difference in children lives. We went out and volunteered in different neighborhoods and schools to help kids out. We did what was best to help our future and next generation of kids better themselves and let them realize that they have potential in becoming and doing whatever they want to do. Yellow may have lost because, since there were only 100 votes, and this school is bigger than that, many people probably didn’t vote because of their apathy. Many of the people that didn’t vote probably would have been for the yellow side because they liked what we stood for. I think that yellow, even though we didn’t win, probably got most of their votes, because of our volunteerism. We influenced our environment by volunteering in schools, parks and other local businesses. They yellow teams main goal was to try and provide the common good to our people. Some people may have been bias or impartial on voting for either of the parties. The purple party was plurality in the general election on Monday, because they won the most votes. The yellow party did not get majority though, because we only got 40 out of 100 votes, which was less then halve. So in this case, winner takes all. People of our school had the right to vote, because they were part of the influence. They are the people that will be ran by this party, so they should have the opportunity to participate in government, voice their personal opinions and have be able to chose their leader.

  28. I was unable to vote because had to leave early, I would have voted for yellow. I seemed to me that yellow actually understood what they stood for and what they were about. Some things that I think influenced people to vote were the raffle and the chance of winning prices. Another reason could have been because people though there posters were more artistic and unique. I’m sure many people had their own reasons. They were many different techniques and slogans given by the two parties. Purple might of one because they talked about their platform which is basically their beliefs. More people could have been more interested in the things they were willing to do. The reason why only a 100 people voted was because of apathy which is being too lazy to vote or either you not interested in voting. Campaigning is basically all about advertising yourself or party so that you will win. Even though real campaigning takes place for longer periods of time, I think that the yellow and purple campaign went well for the short period of time they had to advertise themselves to win.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What i think influenced people to vote was the way the campaign went. More of the the things the campaign involved such as poster, newspaper articles, and commercials. My team was the yellow team, even though we lost, i believe we put up a good fight. The people that voted for purple, voted for what they presented. They didnt vote for what was right or who had a better campaign. My team had more meaning to running this election, we actually stood for something. By just having posters and running around saying purple means royal, is not the ideal campaign, but showing that you respect all rules and are trying to make the place better is the right way. The campaign was fair, but i did not vote for yellow because i was on that team. I voted for yellow because it was the right thing to do !

The fact that Purple is my favorite color, and I love that color influenced me to vote. I knew without a doubt that Purple would be the color that I voted for. Even if I was on the Yellow team I would have voted for Purple because that’s the color that I love the most. I know that this was not a real campaign, but the fact that we acted like it was, and gave information about the color as if it was a real person influenced others to vote for Purple. I know that people were asking me why they should vote for Purple, and I explained to them that Purple is the best color in the world, and that it represents loyalty and royalty, and the fact that it also represents wealth, sophistication, and luxury shows good qualities in a good President. I just basically explained to them good qualities about Purple that would influence them to vote for that color. Basically the content of the campaign about both colors, and our determination to make sure we won influenced them also. I was the candidate of the group, and in my speech I used mostly the bandwagon idea. I also used plain folks by explaining to others that Purple grew up in the streets, but made it out a popular, bright, and delicious color. I had different members to do different things that would increase our chances to win the campaign. By me being the leader I can do everything on my own, therefore I needed other people to have their own job, and that’s what took place. We were a two-party system of course, and both parties, the Yellow and Purple, had different platforms and planks. We were a very organized group/party, and we worked together very well as a team. There were some conflicts, but we were able to resolve them easily. This project was very fun, and I learned a lot during this assignment.

  31. I believe that the purple team won because of them giving out more candy then we did (the yellow team). They also won because they bribed people to vote for them by giving a chance to win a goody bag if you vote for them. The purple team didn’t clearly state what they were for besides “loyal”. The yellow team went around saying that we would clean beaches, we would go to schools and be big buddies to children and volunteer, and we also would go into communities and help out there too. I also believe that most people like the color purple more than yellow so they voted on which color they thought was best. I think that the people that did vote for yellow voted for yellow because we had way more flyers out there showing that we were trying to get people to vote for us. We gave out cookies and some candy even though it wasn’t a lot. Campaigning does take a lot of work because it is harder than you think to get people to actually vote for your team. The terms absentee ballot, apathy, and endorsements came into play during the campaign. Absentee ballot is when people are not able to vote in the campaign because they couldn’t get to the polls. So this is like what happened in the campaign because some of the students were not at school during the campaign so they weren’t able to vote. The term apathy was in the campaign because there were students that didn’t really care who won. Then the last term endorsement because the yellow team had some celebrities that voted for them.

  32. Purple won the majority vote for multiple reasons. The purple team ran a strong campaign. They put much effort into posters, offers, and appearence. People on the purple team put a lot of work into their campaign. Purple was strong and confident about what they stood for. People voted for purple because they were confident and passionate about what they were doing. It seemed like yellow didn't put much effort into their campaign, compared to purple. The Purple team had everything from raffle baskets to hairspray. Yellow had the basic posters and shirts. Purple won because they put more work and effort into their campaign.

  33. I voted for both teams to win and what I think influenced me was not only that I like purple and I was on the Yellow team. I also felt that both teams did exellent jobs on advertising their teams such as Yellow Team making posters and a commercial about helping people and Purple's posters and their video on why and how Purple is better. I think the fact that there were just two different teams made people vote for the team that they were on. This was caused by bias and the people just wanting their team to win. The campaign used a variety of different concepts from actual campaigns which include Advertising with posters, Negative Advertising by making the other team look bad like in Yellow's commercial, and the different teams had ways of representing their team by having purple hair, yellow shirts, buttons, and posters.

  34. The main thing that influenced me to vote was the work put into the campaigns. If it looked like someone had just done the poster, hung it on the wall, and barely put any effort into it, I didn’t vote for them. I think that the main thing that influenced people to vote was the amount of effort and time that it seemed like had been put into the flyers and things. It also depended on who was on what team. If most of your friends were on one team, you’d vote for that team instead of the other. The Purple Team used certain things like, raffles which I feel was technically bribing, to get more people. They had gotten at least 20 people vote for them , just because of the raffle.

  35. what influenced me to vote was afeter all the "debating" and the campaigning the two colors did i was just really influenced to give my vote. One vote can make a difference because who knows we could have been tied without my vote and with my vote we could have one the campaign by one.i think for thoes who were involved in the campaign the same thing influenced themand for thoes who were not maybe a friend talked them into it or maybe a speech some one gave influenced them to vote, or even something as simple as walking down the hallway and seeing all the posters. Like i mentioned in my research just like in real life campaigning we were both a two party system. we both had speeches and posters or stickers, business cards etc. there was even a little bribary going on i think. Also just like in real campigns voting was VERY important. i believe everyone put their all into what they were suppost to do just like they would if it was out in the real world.

  36. I was on the yellow team and did not vote for yellow, I voted for purple. I voted for purple because for one, I dont really like the color yellow I like purple better and the purple team just had a lot more to offer. For example, if you voted for purple you were in a sweepstakes to have a chance to win a basket of candy. Another reason I voted for purple and why everybody else probally voted for purple was because the entire hallway was covered in purple posters. I think that purple won because they just ran a stronger campaign.

  37. I knew yellow probably wouldn’t win, but I voted for them anyway. Purple did put work into their campaign, having more visuals than yellow, but yellow team worked hard, too. I think one of the purple team’s techniques was bandwagon, because they would get a popular person and their friends to vote for them. Both teams used bribery, and a bit of negative campaigning, which probably wasn’t right of us to do. We also used canvassing, because people from each team would try to convince people personally to vote for them. Another tactic was empty phrases, because all of the posters said the same things: “Purple/yellow represents this”, and we were only focusing on the colors. In the end I think we got too involved in the competitive parts of the campaign, and not on the real-world political aspect.

  38. What influenced me to vote was that I was on the purple team and thought that it was important for me to vote for my team. I think that just the sense of competition is what drove everybody to really get into this, because it wasn't like the winning team was going to get anything special. I think that one of the reasons the other people voted was because of the different techniques the teams used to advertise. Some of them were very creative. The purple team had lots of buttons and ribbons that we wore to show our support, and some people even sprayed their hair with temporary dye. The yellow team had many artistic people in their group that were able to make very good posters to put up. While I am on the purple team and voted for the purple team, I do also think that some of us did have a few unfair advantages, because some people were able to actually go out and buy things to give out to people, like that basket that they were raffling.
I think that the reason some people DIDN'T vote was because they didn't know which ones to pick, like maybe some of their friends were on one side, and some were on the other, making it hard to choose, or maybe they thought that both teams had a very good campaign, making it hard to pick.

  39. From what I saw while working on the campaign I saw that even though Purple won, both team showed great alot of passion and hard work throughout the campaign. I'm really really really competitive, even over little things like this, so I was really excited to do this, plus from the beginning I felt that we (Yellow) were the underdogs, so I wanted to win even more. Purple won, and this may sound like me being a bad sport, but honestly I felt that they only won because they were in every bodies face about who to vote for, they even bribed people with candy and by getting their friends to vote in favor of them on just the fact that they were their friend. The majority of people voted for their favorite color or by who was on the team, and not by who was the most convincing. I wish the campaign was a little bit more realistic, and we could base our campaign on issues and such and we also had a longer voting time and over all time to campaign. I think the out come would have been COMPLETELY different since then people would be more likely to vote for the team with the same views (like in a real election) rather than who was on the team and what was offered as a bribe.

  40. I did not vote, due to my absents, but if I were able too, I would vote based on my morals and beliefs. I have heard from some people that the purple team gave candy to voters and did raffles. This reminds me of real campains that use methods of obtaining voters that might not vote for them based on beliefs. Many political campains today are decieving to viewers, either promising to do things they can't, lying about things they have done, or lying about the person they are running against. There aren't many sucessful honest politicians and based on other peoples interpretations of the election I think that this election was very accurately symbolic of a real campain in politics. A campain should consist of members of the politicians party and campain team informing the public about the polititians stance on more important and less important issues alike. They should be well informed and whoever has beliefs that best represent the people they are representing, from a city to the country, should recieve the most votes.

  41. I think that most people voted for purple because they brought more attention to their group during their campaign. Everyone had purple ribbons, pins, spray paint, and clothing. The only thing I saw from the yellow side were a few matching shirts. Most of the freshman probably voted for the group they were assigned to, but sophmores, juniors and seniors who voted probably made their descision on the group they were the most familiar with. I think that the purple team was more creative and put more effort into it. I have noticed that some yellows think that the purple team bribed people and didn't have a good platform. I understand why they might think so, but I have to disagree. Purple raffles and candy were just used as a way to get the word out to voters, not to force anyone to vote for purple. Also, I think that while the yellow team put a lot of effort into their platform, the purple team understood that making sure voters knew about purple and liked them would get more votes.

  42. I voted for yellow only because of me being on the yellow team campaigning. I wanted to vote for purple because I am color blind and different shades of purple look like blue to me. Blue is my favorite color. I voted for yellow also because this was a class assignment. I had advertised for yellow so if I were to vote for purple than my work would be for nothing. After all, they were just colors. The fact that it seemed there where so many more posters around the hall for purple made it seem like purple tried harder than yellow to win the election. But yellow did not only work with posters. Yellow used cards that said "vote for yellow" and where laminated, the only problem with those was that none of them seemed to make it out of freshmen classrooms. If the same people who voted for purple saw the laminated cards they might have voted for yellow. The only political element used in the campaign was Empty Phrases. Purple or yellow did not use plain folks or testimonial methods of campaigning. Yellow did have a slogan "don't be mellow be yellow" that used bandwagon methods of campaigning.

  43. In any major election, how much the information is spred can greatly effect the outcome of the election. For example, if Obama had solely relied upon flyers and bumper stickers in the 2008 election, McCain would have won hands down. Then there is the promises made by the canidates. If the claims made are to the voter's liking, then they are all the more likely to vote for the canidate in question. I, myself was not able the contribute to this election because I was in Greensboro competeing for FBLA.

  44. I did not vote because I didn't really know what the purple team and the yellow team believed in. For other people who voted they would vote because of the hard work put into the campaigns. People would vote because of the persuasiveness of the posters and commercials.

  45. Having the right to vote for something influenced me to vote. It feel good to vote and put my say so in something even if I was one out of almost a 100 and was voting for a color. Voting still felt important. I think what made others vote was the campaign that we ran. They probably thought it was fun as much as we did so just decided to put their two cents in as well. It wasn’t quite like a real campaign but it was kind of like them. In a real campaign the candidates go all over the county, city, state, or country to speak and get people to vote them into office. The competition is much stronger. In real campaigns some candidates use better tactics to get voters to vote for them such as the bandwagon, testimonial, empty phrases, and plain folks. Those are different types of campaigning methods that they use. Campaigning is very difficult though because even if your campaign is great it doesn’t mean you will win.

  46. I voted because I had worked for this campaign and I hated to think it would go to waste. I would imagine that many of those who hadn't voted hadn't been present during the vote or weren't interested in the affairs of our class. The campaign we held throughout the school was in some ways similar to a real campaign. There were two main parties involved in the election just as there is in other elections in our country. Each candidate had been heavily advertised and endorsed by their party in several wys the biggest of which being fliers, posters, and even some videos. I assume that those who voted were either directly involved in the assignment or knew someone who was.

  47. I think alot of people voted based on what their favorite color was and that is why purple won. Also, many people didn't understand why they were voting so they went with the team there friends were on. I voted for the purple team because I honestly thought that they did better on there campaign. I also didn't feel it would be fair to vote for myself. I think the reason so few people voted is because they didnt understand what the vote was for. The campaign itself was very difficult. I didn't know what reasons I should give to make people vote for yellow and I stumbled when they asked me why they should pick my team. I learn that campaigning is very difficult and it requires people to work together. It also takes a lot of time and effort. Just because you tried hard doesn't mean you'll win and if you can't work together it makes everything that much harder.

  48. I was on the purple team. Which meant i voted for purple. Although I was on the team there were many factors played into the reason why i voted for the purple team. they are the way we campagined, I was on the team and I saw how hard we worked. The yellow team did do a great job with their campagining but I think the purple team did a little bit more research and added more to the campain style of the teams choice. I think people were influenced by their friends, by the techniques, and their own teams. The campaigning styles that were used in this election about colors were bandwagon and canvassing.

  49. What influenced me to vote wasn’t just because i was on the purple team there were other reasons why I voted for purple them. The other reasons why i voted for purple because we took charge and have out candy, ribbons, buttons, and offered off a gift basket. All of these things that we did showed that we took charge and that we were the better team when it comes to getting people to vote for you. Also yellow to me they did a good job as well but didn’t do as much as they could of to help themselves out. Some terms that came into this were apathy and absent ballot. Absent ballot took place, because some of the kids were not able to vote because they weren’t here so they weren’t able to vote. Apathy took place because I think that some kids just didn’t care who won or not, so they voted for whoever they wanted to because it didn’t matter to me.

  50. I did not vote in the election between purple and yellow. I did not vote because I didn’t want to make either team win since the winning team might shove it in the face of the losing team. I think what made participants vote one way or the other was which team they were on or what team their friends were on. During the campaign many of the candidates chose to use media such as videos and flyers to advertise why they were a good candidate. Some of the candidates chose to use negative advertising to put down the other team in order to get more votes. There were also a few of the team members that chose to use bribing and giving out items in order to get more votes.

  51. The reason I was influenced to vote myself was that during the campaign process I was very open minded and I was very open to the other side winning since this was the first time I had ever done anything like this. I think some ways that voters were influenced to vote for a specific team was they either just liked the “candidate”. Some also did not vote because they did not want to participate or they felt that the party’s were not liable or there was no reason for them to vote. A reason for people who did vote would say that they voted because of how the information was presented to them. For example I do know some people on the purple team had a great statement of why voters should have chosen purple; I think this is what caused purple to win the election. We used spilt voting because there were two parties and the other people had no idea who you were voting for or who you had voted for unless you told them yourself which didn’t allow much privacy. During this election we did not have any exit polls, since we used the computers and each of us could only vote once I feel that is was a great campaign over all. The voting I feel went pretty well considering we had less than a hundred people of whom actually voted. I think it was a great idea to get the whole school involved even though some people weren’t able to vote under whatever circumstances.

  52. I believe that this assignment was all about involvement. Those who focused on the campaign would naturally receive a better turnout than those who didn't. It is apparent from the results that the students running for purple were more devoted to the success of their campaign, were very influential, or a combination of the previous. From what I have gathered, the purple team used advertizing in which they utilized the device of self advocacy rather than resorting to negative advertisement. They also distributed information in a way that could be compared to canvassing (as teacher to teacher can be compared to door to door). On the whole, the purple group seemed to be more strategized, devoted, and creative when it came to their campaign (This is what I have perceived as an external figure to the class campaigns; ergo, I cannot make undisputed comments regarding the campaign. However, this was my input.).

  53. I was not able to vote at the time that everyone voted but if I were there to vote I would vote based on which group’s thoughts and beliefs were most similar to mine. However, if I were to vote now, it would probably be based on which color that I liked the best due to the fact that I lack knowledge of how the campaigns went and what the groups believed. I hope that most would vote based on the values that each party presented but I’m pretty sure that there were a few people who voted based on their preferential biases and the things that they were receiving while being persuaded to vote for certain parties. Some people don’t even show up to the polls and vote because they don’t feel like their individual vote is needed in the election or maybe they didn’t like either of the candidates. Since I was out of town and unable to vote, in the event that this were an actual election, I would have to fill out an absentee ballot which would have to be completed and mailed in to the voting location before the election if possible.

  54. What influenced me to vote was that I was a candidate of purple and I wanted to get elected, therefore I vote for purple because I stood for those issues. What I believe what help people to vote is what they stand for. What I mean by this is there issues and what they think is important. I also think people vote for who they believe will do them justice in office. In my campaign we just went for why people should vote for Purple and not yellow; however, we just didn’t have one issue why purple should win. We had many different ideas that we put in effect so that Purple would win. This project or election went with our core one hundred because it met the goal four which is about voting, political parties. Even though we didn’t have an election based off of the current issues it still gave me and idea of how elections are ran and what different jobs people have in campaigns. It also showed me that it is not easy to run a candidate because you are in charge of what goes in that campaign and what issues you stand for.

  55. Many things influenced participators to vote. One thing that influenced voters was incisive persuasion. This persuasion was backed up by evidence such as: how much better this candidate was than the other, or how much more responsible and keen the other was. While I was campaign manager on the purple side, my partner Amanda and I went around to teachers who felt like students had neglected their opinion on the vote. So, in a way, we went around to the minority which helped boost our vote, or in other words, we had a small bandwagon. One yellow team used a testimonial to increase votes (Wiz Khalifa) because he’d made a popular song about the team’s color. Many campaigners also used slogans, or empty phrases, in their campaigning. Their catchy phrases helped them out because they were simple, yet stood for what most liked. Many campaigners also canvassed the school which helped because it showed that they really intended on getting your vote and really appreciated you listening to what they had to say. But, some people didn’t vote because they thought that neither side provided a strong enough argument. Some even thought the election was pointless. All in all, I think that most people were interested in the election because of the strong tactics the campaigners used.

  56. In the campaign, I believe what made me vote was the influence the purple team had on me when I walked in the school; they had people spraying each other’s hair with purple hair spray. The yellow team just wasn’t as representative to me. I believe this also influenced how other people decide to vote on purple or yellow also. Representation is the most important way to get recognized, by letting people know what you stand for. Another reason that the purple team won is becuase of how they had valid reasons to vote for them. people in their group were spreading what they stood for.

  57. What influenced me to vote was the fact that I was on the yellow team and I wanted my team to win we worked hard and deserved to win. The fact that I had an opinion and put it out there also helped me vote and I feel maybe others felt the same way. We influenced a lot of other people to vote by campaigning posting videos singing songs passing out cookies candies posters fliers and talking to people. We told people why vote for one color or the other and by bringing candies and cookies into the picture and saying take one if you vote for yellow or purple influenced people to be like I really want some candy or a cookie so I’m going go and vote. I feel that if people didn’t vote it’s simply out of laziness not wanting to get on the computer a pick or that they didn’t find the time. I also feel maybe people simply didn’t care who won or even to choose

  58. What really influenced me to vote in the election was the fact that we used colors which I found very different and purple is my favorite color. I think the students involved in the campaigning of the purple and yellow groups voted because everyone was so heavily involved with their party that they wanted to see them win. Even though not everyone on the purple side voted purple, and not everyone on the yellow side voted yellow, everyone who was a part of the campaigning process saw how each party supported their beliefs and stances. Students not involved with the campaign were probably influenced to vote from all good advertising each party did. Each side used creative posters and ideas to let voters know who the better vote was, which made students not involved want to become involved by voting.

  59. Several of the people who voted were personally involved in the campaigns and that may have influenced them to vote. Those who were not involved personally in the running may have been swayed by posters they saw or by loyalty to comrades within the parties. Some people gave out gum and candies as a sort of bribe to get votes. When it comes down to it, it could have been good campaigning. I was on the purple team, and along with Adriana I went around to the teachers and told them why they should vote for purple. A tactic which I found useful in running this campaign was being very respectful when the opponent was talking to a teacher. We used posters, buttons, flyers; anything we could think of to get the word out: vote for purple. I think it came down to which party your friends were in when it came to the students, and the teachers where influenced by respectful campaigning ads. In addition, I think it would have been interesting to see how the numbers would have been different if more people had voted. This resembles other elections in this way. In presidential elections, sometimes people really don’t care, so they don’t vote. I think that’s what happened here; people didn’t really care so they didn’t vote. Overall, I think purple ran a better, more thought-out campaign.

  61. The thing that influenced me to vote was the way we organized our campaign and the slogan and the posters that we made were very catchy and in my opinion made people want to vote for my assigned color which was yellow. I voted for yellow not just for the visuals but for the way we advertised our color and made it appear to people that it was the best color in the world. I think the thing that made people vote for the purple team was the props that they handed out and the way the advertised by bribing people by giving them candy and stuff. I feel that we could have possibly won if we were to do the same because it was a really good idea. We used all the terms which is bandwagon, testimonial, and empty phases. The way I voted was I compared all my knowing about each color that I received from the other candidate and judged based off my believing. I think that the reason why only one hundred people voted is because not everyone registered and maybe they weren’t sure about who they wanted to so they just didn’t vote.

  62. Participants in an election are influenced by what they think is right and what their morals say. Some people may think that something is okay; while, another person may think that it is morally wrong. Your vote is your own opinion. One main reason that, in this particular election, purple won might have been because more people like the color purple over the color yellow. Some people may not have voted according to the campaigns. Voting is important because without one person’s vote, then that might be the difference between them winning and losing.

  63. The thing that encouraged me to vote was the fact that I thought my team did better with campaigning. The thing that influenced participates was the bribing and what the color stood for, the bribing was made with candy. What the color represented was the most important aspect, and the results of purple winning did make sense because it was noted what purple stood for and how that color impacted society. Political parties need someone involved with press relations, someone who is direct mail, television/radio, and a good person for research. Give out half truth information that makes people want to vote for you worked in this campaign and bribing people with candy worked well also. Bandwagon was the least use strategy in this campaign and “Plain folk” weren’t used at all because we were all up against our peers and our peers were voters also. Testimonial wasn’t used at all either because everybody was well known at the school.

  65. What influenced me to vote is all of the posters and advertisements that were created and displayed. I wanted to give my opinion as to who I thought would be the best candidate. When we were going through the process of campaigning it gave me a chance to learn just exactly how much work each candidate put forth and I saw the opportunity to vote as a way to ensure that the candidate i found most deserving won. I think that what influenced people the most was the prizes and rewards they received. The purple team were giving out candy and inserting names into raffles to give to the people who would vote for their candidate. This was a way to get the voting population a reason to vote for the purple team. The yellow team took more of an artistic route to draw voters in. They decided that it would be helpful if they used posters and flyers to hang up in the hallway to show students what they would achieve if they won the election. I noticed a lot of different campaigning tools used in the campaign that the students created. In the yellow teams campaigns there were many ways that celebrities were included in the campaigning process. The song black and yellow was revised to fit the yellow team and want to make them vote for yellow. This is testimonial campaigning because celebrities that voters like are found in different ads and flyers which encourage them to vote.

  67. The popular team was purple. What influenced me to vote was because I was with that team. So basically I was just going with the party and not the candidate. I think most did go with the team they were with. People who were not with a team probably voted for the team there friends were saying to vote for. If it is not that then with the most effective campaigning signs would win their voters vote. Some ways of advertising was negative advertising from the purple team from the video we made about yellow team are spies. Purple also did a lot of bribing in the campaign with the ticket drawing and free candy bags. The yellow team did have t-shirts to represent their team and did a lot of artistic campaign posters. I think purple won because of popularity and bribes with candy and raffling.

  68. What influenced me to vote is the type of persuasion that was used in the campaign. Also, the fact that I was involved in the yellow campaign, I was obligated to vote. I think that as a student at WECHS, it’s important to be involved in school programs and extra curricular activities. It is a part of working together, just like how citizens of the United States have a responsibility to vote because it’s an opportunity to choose your leaders. It’s also an opportunity to participate in the government and voice opinions on certain issues. Participants were influenced to vote based on the assumption that the purple team may have campaigned better, in terms of handing out candie, and flyers, from what I’ve heard. There was more persuasion, and more candidates running in the purple than in yellow. That could have made a difference in the results. I noticed there was a lot of canvassing going on in the two parties around the school. There were quite a lot of plain folk’s persuasive tricks as well. I liked how the two parties used visuals like video, PowerPoint, and music that connected to the young generation of people. Those were effective ways in attracting voters to vote at the polling place. (In our case, online) And all our funding came from Ms. Hazelwood, so we had no worries about money, but it was a good turn out. I wish more people were involved in the assignment and more days to campaign, along with coming up with more ideas.
