Exit Ticket-Rules of Engagement

1) Does the use of technology enhance student learning and engagement? If so, what is the value? Can meaningful student learning be accomplished without technology? Explain.

2) Provide one example of how you will use what you have learned today in your classroom.

  1. I believe the use of technology does benefit students and their learning. Students are in a word of technology every day, it is too valuable a resource to run from it and not let students embrace it.

    I will use Movie Maker in my Civics and my U.S. History class for the PSA activity and others.

  2. The technology shown today can certainly enhance student learning and engagement. The strategies and resources showcased will be useful in our classrooms. Thank you for breaking down Movie Maker and Glogster and showing how they can be used for short, one-class activities. We will certainly use the Smart Art in Word, and can't figure out why we haven't been using it all along! Thanks so much for the ideas!

  3. 1. I believe technology has the capability of enhancing student learning. I believe instruction has to be deliberately planned in order to receive the type of engagement teachers aspire to get from students. I believe some lessons are better enhanced via seminars and face-to-face discussion in the same way that some lessons can be enhanced via technology. I think both are important in developing 21st Century students.

    2. I will use the SmartArt to add graphic organizers to my activities in English I.

  4. Yes, only if the use of technology is meaningful and tied to increasing student success. Using technology for technology's sake is useless. If the students are creating, analyzing, collaborating and communicating using technology then meaningful student learning will occur.

    Been dragging my feet on virtual/digital portfolios. But now I think glogster will make its way into my class.

  5. Yes, it can. The value is determined by what the students are able to pull from the activity. Yes, meaningful student learning can be accomplished without technology, because it isn't about the technology, it is about the learning.

    Thank you for all of the tools you shared today. I'm looking forward to using the Glogster tool for students to illustrate the design steps they used in our engineering design process class.

  6. Technology does enhance student learning, but only if it is used effectively. It is important that technology is used to do things that students could not do otherwise OR use technology to enhance products that could be created without technology. It is futile to use technology if it is only used because it is there.

    I hope to use the tools you taught us in projects with my students.

The use of technology has the ability to enhance student learning and engagement, provided that teachers choose tools wisely, instruct students on proper use, and continue to keep the end result in mind. Considering the five essential questions (What does a student need to know, etc.) will help teachers choose tools that allow students to demonstate proficieny, further understanding and become more engaged. It's a waste of time to use technology simply to fufill a requirement or to keep students entertained.

    One example of how I would use today's lesson in my math classroom is to have students complete their mathematician research information on a glogster instead of a paper poster.

  8. 1. Depending upon the use of the technology. What is the essential question? What is the purpose? Technology is not essential to meaningful work. It remains a tool. How we use the tool is dependent upon our objectives, planning, pedegogy and young people.

  9. Technology as a tool is great in the classroom if used to actively engage students. I'm in a 1:1 school and its great.I will use join me to share the graphic organizers in smart art as a method of informal assessment.

  10. 1 Definately. Students value technology highly and we have to acknowledge the fact that much of their daily lives are centered around technology. Mistakes are easier when made in the context of technology. So much of technology is trial and error. As technology advances it is harder and harder to ignore as an integral part of instruction. The rest of the world is moving around us and we can't ignore the progress.

  11. The use of technology does enhance student learning by assisting in active student participation; technology can successfully integrate the disciplines.

    There are so many ways that today's examples of technology can be used in the English curriculum, in both writing and literature.

    I plan to begin practicing the shared programs today. I can also share this info with my wife and children, all of whom are classroom teachers. Thanks!

  12. Technology is important as long as it is used wisely. The use of technology also needs to be relevant to students' learning process and builds skills they need to know for the 21st Century.

    We will use the Glogster website to create meaningful and rigorous differentiated teaching and learning experiences.

  13. Yes because they are emersed in it everyday and it is a part of their life skills as well as ours. Meaningful learning can be accomplished without it, but it may seem disconnected to what they come in contact with everyday with the use of the internet. If is is used to support their learning and curiosity, then it is a useful tool.

    It was meaningful to use these resources for even shorter projects. I knew and used some of these resources, but came away with a different perspective and more ideas for another year.
